Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs Will Skip Tour Leg for Cancer Treatment

The musician Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has stated he will miss a leg of his group’s comeback concerts as he begins treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Concerts He Will Miss

Arthurs, 60, a founding member of the group, confirmed he will not be performing at the scheduled shows in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney.

The show in Seoul is scheduled for 21 October, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.

Health Update

In a online statement, he disclosed that he was diagnosed prostate cancer earlier this year and is responding well to treatment.

“Early this year I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The good news is I’m responding really well to treatment, which enabled me to participate in this amazing tour.
“Now, I am having to take a scheduled pause for the next phase of my care, so I’ll be unable to attend the concerts in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m really sad to be absent from these events but I’m doing well and will be back ready to go in time for the South American leg.”

Earlier Cancer Diagnosis

This marks his first medical challenge. In 2022, Arthurs disclosed he had been found to have tonsil cancer.

At that time, he stated: “Just to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been found to have a tonsil cancer. But the positive news is it’s treatable and I will be starting a treatment plan soon.”

Career Highlights

Arthurs played in the band The Rain with the frontman in the early 1990s before they recruited the singer’s brother, Noel, who later insisted they change their name.

He featured on three records with the group, including the era-defining Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before leaving in 1999 during the recording of the next record, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

Arthurs later joined Liam Gallagher’s band for a period and has often performed live with Liam during his individual projects, most recently at the UK music festivals in 2021.

He also established the group his own band and served as a radio DJ after his period in the band.
